21:00-22:00 brand new series.2/3.Long Lost Family:What Happened Next?.Over the past six years, Long Lost Family has reunited over 200 people with longed-for family members. But for the searchers and those they have found, the reunion is just the beginning of an incredible new journey – one that is filled with joy but also brings challenges. How easy is it to build a relationship after a lifetime apart?
In this series, presented by Davina McCall and Nicky Campbell, we’ll find out as we revisit eight of our most compelling stories and reveal the surprising, revelatory and emotional turns they have taken.
Episode two catches up with people whose lives have been changed in the most unexpected ways.
Just last year Vanda James was stunned when Davina revealed that her long lost brother Kenneth had not only been found, but had undergone gender transition and was now in fact her sister, and called Debbie. We revisit the siblings as they celebrate Debbie’s birthday and discover how the reunion has changed the sisters’ lives in ways they could never have imagined.
Debbie said: “It was a relief that she (Vanda) doesn’t care who I was, she accepted me for what I am.”
Vanda said: “When I found a sister, and I was looking for a brother, I just felt joyful…I’ve always wanted a sister, I always wanted someone to share girly things with me…I feel like a sisterly protection over her.”
In the second of tonight’s stories, when Chris and Sue Ellerton came to us searching for the son they had put up for adoption as teenagers, it was a first for Long Lost Family. Never before had we taken on a joint search on behalf of a couple looking together for their child.
But how would Andrew’s four siblings react to having a new brother? We travel to Canada as Andrew nervously anticipates his first meeting with brother Paul, who, before Andrew was found, had been the eldest of the siblings.
Andrew said: “I’m quite nervous to see how this is going to go, meeting Paul, because we are so close in age.”
Also, we catch up with Christine Gillard, who Long Lost Family re-united with her daughter Margo, who she had been forced to give up not once, but twice. How has Christine coped with the revelation that her daughter spent some of her childhood not with a family, as Christine had hoped and believed, but in care?
