21:00-22:00 brand new three-part-documentary series.Heathrow:Britain,s Busiest Airport. This new three-part documentary series, Heathrow: Britain’s Busiest Airport, explores life behind the scenes at Europe's biggest and busiest airport.
Filmed over five months of Heathrow’s busiest year ever, with more than 76 million passengers, the series follows Heathrow’s army of 76,000 staff – from plumbers, to pilots, to police – as they transport 200,000 passengers a day, and race to get thousands of planes away on time.
In episode one – ‘Arrivals’, Heathrow’s staff are busy processing the 100,000 passengers who arrive at the airport on over 600 daily flights. And when a passenger arrives from Doha and needs to connect through to Dublin, a problem arises when it transpires that his flight has been booked from Gatwick - 38 miles away. It’s up to Passenger Experience Manager Sue to battle a cultural barrier to help him.
Meanwhile, as engineering apprentice Matt heads out onto the runway to calibrate the arrival lights he gets closer to a 747 than he ever thought possible.
Also, there’s a massive new arrival in the shape of a brand new 787 Dreamliner plane, as Senior First Officer Dave flies to Seattle to collect the new aircraft. And the airport’s dedicated fire brigade extinguishes a fire on a 747. Though fortunately it’s just a drill.
